From the very beginning, it was all about fishing, food and family fun. Forty years later, Walleye Weekend and the Mercury National Walleye Tournament are going strong, bigger and better. Local historian Tracy Reinhardt will tell the story of the festival and tournament's early partnership and challenges and Walleye Weekend's remarkable growth at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The History at Home programs are free; no registration required.
Reinhardt's presentation will trace the history of the fishing tournament-come-regional celebration and will include photos from festivities through the years.
Reinhardt was born and raised in Fond du Lac County and has been collecting stories of family and early Fond du Lac history for more than 40 years. She is library director/archivist for the Fond du Lac County Historical Society.
